Reflection 2 (on behavior management techniques)

On Wednesday, while my monitor school teacher lining up her students in order to move to buses area. Three students chose to leave the classroom without their teacher's permission. My MST returned them from hallway to the class and reminded them of the classroom rules. Taking away two points from "class dojo" record was the teacher's negative reinforcement for those students. Moreover, my MST decided to delay them in leaving time for a couple minutes.

It likely seems that students weren't paying attention enough to teacher's instructions that why they leave immediately. The most important thing I inferred from this incident that using technology such as“class dojo” in managing behavior had effective results on students’ attitude. In addition, this application creates a competitive climate between students and reinforce them to behave in acceptable forms. Students in above case, really care about their points especially when the teacher discuss their mistakes in front of their peers.

As I learned in previous courses child behavior is a result of their experiences that why it’s important to teach them the consequences of their attitude. There are many theorists who emphasize the role of consequences to change behavior such as Skinner. One of the main ideas in Skinner's thoughts was the three types: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment that what my MST tried to apply in her classroom.

In my opinion, once the teacher set up clear classroom rules the education process becomes more satisfied and practical . on the other hand, I learned even with a good classroom management strategies disruptive behavior still occur. It is definitely difficult to remove all misbehaviors from our classrooms but certainly we can reduce them and have a good control.
